UPL has reorganised and renamed its speciality chemicals business as Superform Chemistries Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary to tap the opportunities in the non-agriculture industries segment such as lubricants, mining, healthcare, food and beverage among others.
Superform Chemistries Ltd, formerly known as UPL Specialty Chemicals Ltd, is a next-generation specialty chemistries company built on the pillars of innovation, sustainability, and high-performance solutions, the company said in a statement.
Jai Shroff, Chairman and Group CEO, UPL Ltd, said creation of separate entity Superform will help the company tap the market opportunity for speciality chemicals in the non-agriculture segment. The current size of the UPL’s speciality chemicals business is about ₹10,000 crore.
“We expect it to grow in excess of 25 to 30 per cent, catering to segment such as dyes industry, the pharma industry, the paints industry, the oil field chemicals industry, the polymer industry,” Shroff said, adding that the opportunity is going to be huge over the next five to seven years.
According to projections, by 2040, the Indian chemistries market is projected to grow to $850-$1000 billion with specialty chemistries segment potentially accounting for 10-12 per cent of the global market.
UPL expects to leverage the investment it has made in the backward integration of raw materials to grow the Superform business. A lot of raw material, which Superform makes can go into the non-agri applications, with a slight modification. “We believe that opportunity is huge and creating a dedicated focused team who runs that business allows us to access that,” Shroff said.
Raj Tiwari, CEO of Superform said the company would be investing ₹400-500 crore in the near future to build and expand the company’s operations.
Superform’s competencies lie in manufacturing, but what differentiates it is its ability to work with complex chemistries, solve intricate problems, and deliver a wonderful impact for its customers, partners, people, and the world to bring about a positive change, the company said.
