Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)’s air-defence system Akashteer system was deployed during Operation Sindhoor, according to the company.
Designed to collate and fuse sensor data into a single, real-time air situation picture, Akashteer enables precision engagement of threats. The system proved effective in countering Pakistani inbound drones, missiles, and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the mission.
The PSU stated that the ground-based defence systems were integrated with Akashteer, an advanced air defence control and reporting system. “The system performed beyond users’ expectations providing robust Air Defence to India during the current conflict,” the company said.
“Akashteer ensures a seamless & unified air situation picture accessible to the lowest operational units of Army AD, enhancing situational awareness across the force,” they added.
BEL posted a record turnover of around ₹23,000 crore for the financial year 2024–25, marking a 16 per cent growth over the previous year’s ₹19,820 crore. Exports make up a small share of BEL’s business, with 90 per cent of its revenue derived from defence projects and 10 per cent from non-defence.
Jointly manufactured by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and Bharat Electronics Limited under the make-in-India initiative, Akashteer is an AI-powered Air Defence system that enables coordinated air defence operations. According to news reports, it automates the detection, tracking, and engagement of enemy aircraft, drones and missiles. The system is vehicle-based providing high mobility.
As per the BSE, BEL shares closed at ₹344.35 with a 2.56 per cent increase.
