VU Dynamics was set up in 2022 at the Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur
VU Dynamics Pvt Ltd, a start-up incubated at IIT Kanpur, which manufactures drones for the Defence forces has been taken over by Prakash Asphaltings & Toll Highways (India) Ltd (PATH).
A press release issued by IIT Kanpur speaks of a “strategic collaboration” between VU and the Indore-based PATH. However, the founder of VU Dynamics, Prof Subrahmanyam Saderla, told businessline that “VU Dynamics has become a subsidiary of PATH”.
Details of PATH’s investment in VU Dynamics and the equity stake it has taken have not been revealed by the press release. It said that the start-up had attracted “significant investments”.
Currently, VU produces fixed wing, catapult-launched drones for defence applications at Saderla’s lab in IIT Kanpur, where the products are 3D printed. However, with the advent of PATH, it is learnt that a drone factory would be set up near Indore.
IIT Kanpur’s Director, Prof Manindra Agrawal, told businessline that VU Dynamics had received a large Defence order; Saderla did not wish to give details of the order right now.
In its LinkedIn post, PATH said: “We are manufacturing tactical drones and advanced systems for the Indian Army, aimed at boosting capability, agility, and indigenous innovation by setting up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in MHOW (Military Headquarters of War, Madhya Pradesh.)”
Saderla said that within a month, VU would be able to produce 200 drones a day. That is for starters. Production would be ramped up later.
VU Dynamics was set up in 2022 at the Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur, by Saderla and his wife Dr Sravanti Saderla. Subrahmanya Saderla, who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur, has been working on drones since 2006. “We are not new to this,” he said.
Currently, the company has two types of kamikaze drones—one of 100 km range and can carry 6 kg warhead, and the other 40 km range and 2 kg warhead. But bigger drones, capable of much longer range and payload capacity are under development. In addition, it also has in its product portfolio a delta-wing drone for surveillance and remote sensing.

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
