The deadline for registration of wheat farmers wanting to sell their rabi crop at Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been extended to April 5, Gujarat government said on Thursday.
The government extended the deadline to allow wheat farmers who missed the earlier deadline to register themselves online. The Gujarat government had begun online registration for farmers on March 1 and ended it on March 16. The pending online registrations are being done and biometrically authenticated for farmers through e-gram centres operated by Village Computer Entrepreneurat the village-level.
Without giving any estimates on the amount of wheat it plans to buy during the rabi season from farmers, Gujarat government also said that the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department had started buying wheat from March 17 at an MSP of ₹2,425 per quintal.
