Internal buying coupled with low offerings lifted tea prices of some varieties at Coonoor auctions last week.

In sale 13, according to traders, internal buyers were active to meet their business commitments at the end of the fiscal year and this pushed up prices of some varieties. At the same time offered quantities were also lower, witnessing more than 99 per cent sales both for dust and leaf grades.

Global Tea Auctioneers said the offered quantities in leaf category was 8,52,543 kg, witnessing a sales percentage of 99.33 per cent, while for the dust, it was 2,34,750 kg, registering 99.66 per cent sales.

High-priced and better liquoring sorts in CTC Leaf was lower by ₹4 to 5, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹4 to 5. The better medium sorts sold dearer by ₹4 to 5 and more towards the later end of the sale.

Good demand for CTC leaf

The mediums and plainer sorts bolder grades were occasionally dearer by ₹1 to 2, whilst the remaining grades had very good demand and sold dearer by ₹4 to 5 and much more towards the later end of the sale. Generally, a very good demand was noticed in the overall CTC leaf sale.

The primary whole leaf grades in leaf orthodox sold dearer by ₹5 to 6. The brokens sold dearer ₹5 to 6.

The high-priced teas and better liquoring in CTC dust were lower by ₹4 to 5 and occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹4 to 5. The better medium sorts sold dearer by ₹2 to 3. The mediums and plainer sorts sold fully firm to dearer by ₹2 to 3 and more at times.
