The centre has allowed for the reopening of civilian operations from all airports that were temporarily closed due to the deteriorating security situation.
The move comes after India and Pakistan reached an understanding to ceasefire.
These 32 airports are located across the northern and western parts of the country.
According to Airports Authority of India (AAI), civilian air operations have now been allowed to operate from these airports with immediate effect.
“It is recommended for travellers to check flight status directly with airlines and monitor airlines’ websites for regular updates,” AAI said in a statement.
In response to the development, airline major IndiGo said that in line with the latest government directives, it will progressively commence operations on the previously closed routes.
“As services gradually return to normal, there may still be a few delays and last-minute adjustments,” the airline said.
Besides, the airline said that change and cancellation fee waivers remain available until May 22, 2025, for travel to and from the affected airports.
Prior to the cease-fire, continuing hostilities with Pakistan led the centre to extend the suspension of civilian flight operations at 32 airports until May 15.
Accordingly, a ‘Notice to Airmen’ (NOTAM) issued on Friday, covering the affected Flight Information Regions (FIRs) extended the suspension period from May 10 to 11.59 pm May 15, 2025.
The airports are located across various states and union territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
As per NOTAM, the suspension will be applicable at airports such as Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Shimla, and Rajkot, among others.
