India will try to resolve specific concerns in economic and trade areas with China, including the growing trade deficit with the country that touched almost $100 billion in FY25, through relevant mechanisms, per the Ministry of External Affairs.
Talks were also under way for resumption of flights between India and China, which were suspended in 2020 after the Galwan valley clash, and technical teams from the two sides were looking at the arrangements.
“Specific concerns in the economic and trade areas (with China), including India’s trade deficit, will be discussed through relevant mechanisms with a view to resolving these issues and promoting long-term policy transparency and predictability,” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a media briefing on Thursday responding to a question.
Both sides agreed to resume and extend dialogue mechanisms for functional exchanges in a step-by-step manner to address each other’s priority areas of interest and concern when Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited China in January this year, he said.
On resumption of direct flights, the Spokesperson said that the two civil aviation authorities had met, and were discussing the relevant modalities including the updated framework which was a must and involved technical talks.
Discussions with China are ongoing at multiple levels and a variety of issues were being discussed such as visa issues, people-to-people exchanges, movement between the two countries, and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, Jaiswal added.
