An incoming western disturbance as a weather-making trough lay over Afghanistan-Pakistan border while a predecessor made deep inroads into Central India by digging south into Jalgaon in west Maharashtra on Thursday even as associated cooler winds are set to moderate severe heat wave conditions over North-West India.
Ensuing volatile weather, marked by scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lighting and hail, may relent only after April 18, according to a few global models. This will serve to keep top and damaging heat away from the region for as many days, before another western disturbance arrives towards the month-end to set up a near encore.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) pointed to a cyclonic circulation lying over south Pakistan on Thursday afternoon, boosting flow of cooler winds from a prevailing winds. Counterparts springing up this side of international border over Punjab and north-west Madhya Pradesh spun in tandem. A trough ran down from west Rajasthan to Marathwada.
Hailstorms, dust storms, and thunder squalls may line up over North-West India as cooler winds empty themselves into a cauldron of severe heat, and squelch it by setting up widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
Animated weather building in this manner has thrown up cyclonic circulations also to the eastern parts of the country over north Bangladesh, south Assam, north-east Assam and northeast Bihar. Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are forecast for North-East and adjoining East India during for next seven days.
Towards south, a prevailing well-marked low-pressure area has weakened to a conventional ‘low’ over west-central Bay of Bengal. It may weaken further over central Bay by Friday, while setting up squally weather over central and north-east Bay.
Scattered to fairly widespread to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely for Kerala and Mahe for a week, and over Lakshadweep for three days. Isolated to scattered to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may lash Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, and Karnataka for five days.
