Google has updated two of its search help documentation around structured data; both the events structured data and recipe structured data docs were updated. These are relatively minor changes but these changes may clarify some questions you may have with implementation practices.
Events structured data updates. Google removed the online event properties from the document, that whole section was removed. Online events seem to not be supported anymore. Google explained, “To be eligible for the event experience on Google, events must be bookable by the general public and held at a physical location.”
Google also added more examples of eliglible and illegible events to the events documentation.
You can compare the new version to the old version side by side to see all the minor changes to the document.
Recipe structured data updates. Google made it clear the image property in Recipe structured data does not influence the image that’s chosen as a text result image. Google posted an update that reads:
“Specifying the image property in Recipe markup has no impact on the image chosen for a text result image. To optimize for a text result image, follow the image SEO best practices.”
Why we care. If you use either event and recipe structured data, then you will want to ensure these changes do not have any impact to your implementation. For example, if you are using event structured data for online event properties, you should probably remove that markup
