The Central government has finalised a new policy for electric vehicles (EV) in India. According to a statement released by the Centre, the policy involves investments towards building, machinery, research, charging network to a limited extent.
Under the new scheme, companies are allowed to import EVs priced at $35,000 at reduced tariff of 15% for 5 years
Import of EVs at lower duty is permitted only if companies invest $486 million in manufacturing electric cars in India.
Companies are also required to begin EV production in 3 years after getting approval. They will also need to achieve 25% local parts in cars in 3 years, 50% in 5 years while making EVs
