After a gap of three years, the monsoon has brought cheers to farmers in Telangana as it has hit early as per the forecast of weathermen. The State reported rains in several parts, prompting the farmers to sow, particularly in the rainfed areas.

Heavy rains are also forecast in districts like Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Commission Chairman M Kondanda Reddy asked the officials of the State Agriculture Department to provide soil testing equipment to Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), allowing the farmers to get the health of their soil samples tested and take remedial measures, if need be.

He also wanted the department to ensure supply of foundational seed to at least three farmers in each of the villages in the State.

In a separate development, State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that the Government was taking measures to keep 4-5 lakh tonnes of urea ready and distribute the same to various districts as the season progresses. The Union Government has allocated 9.80 lakh tonnes of urea to the State for the current kharif season.
